The Ring dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien

ring"The Ring" - my tribute to  J.R.R. Tolkien

Even if I threw my Ring inside the Dark Mordor, on the mysterious red rusted Afghan mountains of the spring 1973, after travels and extraordinary vicissitues, right these days I'm going to read once again The Lord of The Rings by  J.R.R. Tolkien... I'm going to revive once more the magic epic of a tale that has significant parallels to my life. My first encountering with the Tolkien Trilogy happen in between the colored papers of a letter that, in 1972, I got from a friend who was on those days traveling the white sunny burning roads of India...

The Road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow, if I can,

Pursuing it with eager feet, until it joins some larger way

Where many paths and errands meet.

And whither then? I cannot say.

and since a person holds the space permeated and swept by his attention I'll be again Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn or Tom Bombadil even though inspite of  being them at times, I'll try not to be Saruman or the Dark Lord. It is very extraordinary that even though I red thousands of other stories or novels, never I went back to read them again feeling such strong  attraction: yes, I know very well every step of the Tolkien's Trilogy, but...I just open the page, start to read and ..."The Road goes ever on and on ...", the symbols, characters, places and happening become alive again like magic... the curtain unfold and here I am in a very familiar universe, complete, magic and extraordinary where I can play and give wings and free run to my fantasy.

How many times at night, traveling back the silent road to my old and lost small village I have been Gandalf, Frodo, Tom Bombadil or Saruman?

In the pages of the Trilogy I have found the impulse and riabilitation to my creative fantastic world, the pure exaltation of epic and great stories, the understanding of the  deep dark evil, the white blinding brilliant beauty of the good, the childlike humor of simplicity that solves all and the noble nostalgy of those who knows. Music, drawings, paintings, happening, poetry did materialize thanks to Luthien, Lothlorien, Gandalf, Gondolin, Valar... never ending source of inspiration.

Tolkien is alive, true and enthusing since I have been and I am all those characters: I walked with them under the stars, on the blu seas, amidst ancient mountains and over old white roads since me too, like them, I'm in search of THE ROAD." (© Pier Paderni)
